We love it when our couples step out of the box with their wedding—Keira and Ray did that and more. Their art deco wedding was a joy to plan.
Picture it: a moody urban jungle with flashes of lush greens, oranges, and reds set against a velvety dark background with gold accents. This half art deco, half tropical theme was inspired by the couple’s trip to Singapore. With it, our lead planner Aurora Krenus, transformed the ballroom at the Fairmont Pacific Rim into a magical space filled with monsteras, palms, and bright florals from Flowerz. And we didn’t take a minimalistic approach, either. There were two (yes, two!) flower walls, one of which had a neon sign with the quote “It was all a dream” and was the backdrop for the ceremony.
To this day, this is one of the most unique settings we have created for our couples, and it’s one we often find ourselves daydreaming about!
Keira and Ray’s theme extended way beyond the decor. Their invites from Mary Clare Wilkie gave guests a taste of what they would expect, with forest green stationary adorned with birds of paradise blooms and other colourful florals.
Keira also featured their colours in her outfit. Paired with a stunningly elegant dress from One Day Bridal and understated accessories from Poppy Finch, she had forest green shoes with a gold tip that peeked under the hem as she moved. Her bouquet also looked like it had been picked straight out of a rainforest and was the perfect contrast to the smooth finish of the dress.
Working with Ray and Keira was a dream. They knew exactly what they wanted and made it so easy for Aurora to incorporate parts of them into how she designed the wedding. Keira even played a big role in writing the ceremony herself. She worked with the officiant to choose words that really resonated with them and made the short ceremony a true reflection of who they are as a pair.

While the couple didn’t want too much attention focused entirely on them, they did take a moment to have a first look before the ceremony. This meant that they had a few minutes saved in their day where they could focus on each other and not be worried about their guests or what was next on the schedule. Ray’s face as he saw his bride in her beautiful, timeless outfit was priceless!

It was really important to both of them that the event didn’t feel too stuffy or uninviting to anyone. For that, we made sure that amongst the many elevated elements (like the gold chairs and lush florals) there were also casual items like a candy bar, french fries, and a confetti wedding cake inspired by Milk Bar.

Weddings like Ray and Keira’s remind us of how much fun we can have bringing new concepts to life in a way that truly speaks to our couples and their guests. Now, looking back on this day, we’re so glad that the couple chose such a great photographer in Meghan Hemstra to capture this big day. It’s a reminder of how important it is to find someone who gets your aesthetic and can capture it in the right way.
