Maddi and Riley had a quiet luxury wedding in Whistler at the Wedge Mountain Lodge — a stunning venue hidden in the mountains. The whole weekend was shaped by our planner, Jamie-Lee Clooten, and the following is her account of events.
From our very first conversation, Maddi knew the feeling she was after: intimate, timeless, a little old-world. As a couple that’s used to being in a professional sports environment, they weren’t looking for a production. Instead, they wanted a secluded space, warmth, and their closest family gathered in one place.
That vision led us to the Wedge Mountain Lodge. This private alpine retreat was the ideal setting with twelve thousand square feet, a Nordic-inspired spa, a Great Room framed by thirty-foot windows, and a sense of seclusion that let everyone simply settle in.

We built the celebration around the whole weekend, beginning with a welcome pool party with welcome games. A big part of who Maddi and Riley are as a couple is a playful and competitive nature, so slow mountain mornings, so welcoming their guests with pickle ball matches against the gorgeous mountain landscape was very much on brand.

When it came time to design the event itself, Maddi and Riley had a clear vision: black-tie, editorial, and unmistakably timeless. The event should exude quiet luxury. Modern but never cold. Our board leaned into white blooms, candlelight, and crystal, set against the drama of the surrounding rock and evergreen. Every choice was made to feel elevated and effortless at once.

I learned early on that Maddi is a details person, she’s incredibly intentional in every decision she makes, and that came through in every choice she and Riley made for the wedding.
It all started with the invitation, crafted by the wonderful Cornwall Stationery, with a request to meet us in the mountains. Each invite was also sprayed with a signature scent, so that opening the invitation released a note of forest and mountain air.

On the morning of, with no first look planned, Riley sent a surprise bouquet in her favourite colour to Maddi’s room. The flowers came with a note that he couldn’t wait to see her come down the aisle. She dressed up in the most beautiful gown, her grandmother’s pearls — something old, carried close — and a pair of Jimmy Choos.
Meanwhile, across the venue, the groomsmen unwrapped a surprise of their own: Riley had gifted each of them a Highland lordship, making each of them a Lord.

The ceremony was held outdoors on the grass, a wall of rock and evergreen rising behind the couple and sculptural white florals by Le Marais Décor and Dushan Flowers anchoring the aisle. Maddi’s brother Tyson officiated and Riley’s grandmother made a beloved flower girl. (More nana flower girls, please!)
It was exactly the intimate, everyone-has-a-role feeling they had hoped for, captured beautifully by Tessa Shannon Photography and filmed by Hello Tomorrow.

After the vows, guests moved indoors to the lodge’s Great Room for cocktail hour, glasses of sparkling in hand, while we finished the transformation waiting for them outside.
Dinner was where the design truly sang. We had turfed the lodge’s pickleball court entirely, turning it into an open-air dining room set against the rock face. We had two long tables covered in white blooms, with chandeliers balancing on custom stands Maddi’s father had built by hand.
While guests chatted with each other, turning acquaintanceships into friendships, they were framed by soft candlelight and a backdrop of Whistler mountains.
The Collective Kitchen served a memorable menu of local produce, rich entrees, and a dessert station in the Great Room. Their stunning two-tier cake was another showstopper from Baking Lane, with a tiny bite taken out by a miniature of Maverick, the couple’s German Shepherd.

As the evening loosened, the celebration moved to the pool deck for a margarita bar under a glow of neon, and the dancing carried on well into the mountain night. It was the perfect joyful closing to a beautifully curated weekend.
