Wedding Planning by Aurora Krenus – Photography by The Apartment Photography
Jennifer and Andrew are a couple that above all else like to have fun. They wanted their wedding to feel warm, with a bit of whimsy around their pirate inspiration, and above all, they wanted to have a great party.
Jennifer’s family have a property on Pender Island, and as kids, her and her brothers always played pirates there. They all have pirate names and lots of pirate props they have accumulated over the years. It’s a really unique and fun part of their family, and so we decided to use it as inspiration. We worked hard to make sure it was never cheesy but kept hints of that pirate feel throughout. As you can see, this included (chocolate) gold coins for guests to take, as well as a chest and scrolls introducing the wedding couple.
At the wedding Jenn’s parents gave Andrew his own pirate name and a handmade hat to welcome him to the family.
The couple were super laid back and very excited to marry each other and celebrate. It was so creatively fulfilling for me to have such a new theme to work with. At one point we talked about how we wanted the ballroom to feel like guests had stumbled across the Vancouver Club after it had been ”Jumanji’d” – overgrown with greenery, with a dark, woodsy feeling with romantic relics. Maria from Niche Events did a great job with the flowers and decorating to create this look.
The couple are also big beer lovers, so we brought in beer from Four Winds, a local brewery, and created a beer tasting for the cocktail hour complete with food pairings. It was a big hit with all the guests!
One of my favorite details about the wedding was a custom hand-drawn map by Love by Phoebe, of Pender island and the surrounding areas. We used this art as the guestbook, and their friends and family wrote in the blank ocean areas. I loved this idea and it will be a great keepsake for the couple for years to come.
It was such a joy to plan Jennifer and Andrew’s wedding, and we wish them a lifetime of (pirate-related) happiness together!
With love,
Aurora xoxo
